Yes, yes, I am on the Lupita Nyong’o bandwagon. But I have liked her since the first time I saw her beautiful dark face. And I am happy for her and love the styles she wears. She won the Best Breakthrough Award at Essence’s seventh annual Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday in Beverly Hills, California. She received the award for her performance in “12 Years a Slave”. And her acceptance speech included the deeply sensitive subject of black beauty – specifically dark-skinned beauty.
In her speech she says ” I remember a time when I too felt “. These words were because of a letter she received from a little girl. She also says ” My heart bled when I read those words”. When i was a teenage, my self-hate grew worse”. And the came….Alek Wek. The rest of her letter is so inspirational but I just have to say I love her skin tone. I have always loved her from the beginning . She is beautiful.
